cJAM Media: Country’s respected media professionals bring expertise to UCLan

Students pitch to professionals from BBC, MUTV and more

Some of the country’s most experienced media professionals have been sharing their expertise with the next generation at a special event organised by University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

UCLan’s annual Careers Jamming Session (cJAM) event, where students learn from the best in the business and pitch to win work placements, brought in 30 industry representatives covering areas including film, games design, media production and photography.

In total, 102 placement opportunities were offered on the day, including with the BBC, The Gate Films, MUTV, Corporation Pop and Wash Studio.

Mike Grey from MUTV, Andrew Bennison Prospect Games and Dr Alex Connock from Missile Digital Studios were just some of the speakers who shared their career journeys and offered advice to the students.

Key speaker Rhiannon Lewis from The Gate Films advised the students:

“Make the most out of being you. I work with a lot of expensive directors who can’t do what you do; they can’t engage audiences like you can.”

“Make the most of the talented people around you and if the opportunity for you isn’t out there then create your own.”

Andrew Bennison, Managing Director of Prospect Games

It’s the fifth time UCLan has hosted cJAM, which this year will spread across four separate events covering journalism, media, performance and law. In total, 154 people attended the media gathering.

The Great Northern Creative Expo

The Great Northern Creative Expo has evolved from a commitment to promote and showcase the creative talent that has been developed at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and to also introduce to the world, the fantastic students and professionals that we have working at the University, whilst opening our doors to the city, to the North and the world beyond. Once again, the expo will introduce a variety of talent which will include film, photography, media and journalism with performances, workshops, masterclasses, music, monologues, networking, animation and inspiration to one and all. The expo has attracted some of the leading creative talent (nationally and internationally) and we are pleased to offer students, academics and the general public the opportunity to share a stimulating experience of creative talent which can be viewed, evaluated and enjoyed by everyone!
