Technical Requirements

All films screened at The Great Northern Creative Expo as part of the Audio+Visual Competition are edited onto genre reels where films play back to back without the need to break.

We do NOT accept submissions in physical formats such as playable DVDs, tapes or film reels. TGNCE19 is a digital festival and will accept Quicktime files only.

Quicktime wrapper – Apple ProRes 422 codec
Audio Codec – Integer 16bit 48KHz Stereo
Resolution – 1920 x 1080 Progressive
Frame Rate – 24fps or 25fps

Codec – TGNCE19 uses Quicktime ProRes as it’s working codec for all screenings.

Aspect Ratio – In order to standardise all of our screenings, all films will be screened within a 1920 x 1080 boundary.

Technical Compliance – It is the film-makers responsibility to ensure that the delivered film is technically correct. The Great Northern Creative Expo endeavours to quality check all films, but ultimately it is the responsibility of the submitter to check the quality of their work. PLEASE CHECK YOUR WORK THOROUGHLY BEFORE DELIVERY.

Audio Mix – All TGNCE19 films will be exhibited in stereo. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPLY A 5.1 MIX.

Padding – Please include 3 seconds of black video padding at the beginning and end of the film.

Subtitles – If your submission includes subtitles, they must be clearly legible and burnt into the Quicktime file. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPLY A SUBTITLE FILE SEPARATELY.

File Name – Please ensure your Quicktime file is named as the title of your submission.

Any subtitles and caption must be clearly legible. Please pay particular attention to font size, type and subtitle colour. White text on a light background will be hard to read. Where necessary ensure subtitles have a border/drop shadow or are presented in a different colour to white to ensure the text is clearly legible.
